2011 Cross Country Camp

 

OAK RIDGE CROSS COUNTRY CAMP

 

August 7-11, 2011

 

I.          Purpose:

            The Oak Ridge Cross Country Camp will provide an experience which will 

           enhance the running skills and condition of the participants. It will provide the

           runner with the opportunity to do the following:

 

            A)        increase his/her knowledge of the sport and then apply these skills toward                                                  personal improvement,

            B)        train in the challenging environment of the Cumberland Mountain Foothills,

            C)        interact with other team members to develop the closeness and team

                        unity  necessary to insure team success.

            D)        learn new stretching and strengthening practices, along with enhancing

understanding of the importance of nutrition in athletic performance.

 

II.        Staff:

ORHS Head Coach Allen Etheridge, Assistant Coach Sam Roberts, and Catholic Coach Sean O’Neil will direct the camp.  Coach Etheridge has participated in the ORCC camp sixteen times: four as a participant in the early years of the camp, and twelve as a coach. A number of adult chaperones will assist. In addition, Kate Shult, an exercise physiologist, will work on core strength, flexibility, and nutrition with each athlete.  

 

III.       Things to Bring:

            Bedding:  sleeping bag or sheets and blankets, pillow, etc.

            Toilet Articles:  toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, towels, shaving cream, etc.

            Clothing:  Running shoes, socks, shorts, shirts, jeans, etc.   

            Swimsuit and towel  

            Calling card  for pay phone

            Alarm clock

 

IV.       Food:

            Each participant will enjoy three balanced meals a day, as well as nutritious snacks.  The  

            food will be prepared daily and will be of excellent quality and variety. Each participant           

            should bring sack lunch for Sunday, August 7.

 

V.        Camp Regulations:

            Participants are expected to be familiar with and adhere to the following regulations:   

     

             A)                no participant will leave the camp area without the directors' permission;

            B)        no participant will leave his/her cabin after lights out;

            C)        *no hazing or initiations;

            D )       participants are expected and required to run in designated groups; there will

                        be  no running alone during work-outs or at any other time;

F)        there will be no smoking, use of alcohol or illegal drugs, or use of fireworks;

G)       all participants are expected to help with daily chores.

H)       participants are expected to be courteous and respectful to each other and to

           camp  staff and chaperones

 

*Hazing/initiation includes, but is not limited to, physical or verbal abuse, kangaroo courts, or any other activity designed to “initiate” a newcomer into the program. Not only is this against the law, but it violates everything this program is about. The ORCC program will tolerate no hazing.

 

Any violation of these rules will result in the participant's parents being called and the participant being sent home.  No refund will be made.  In addition, any violation at camp can and will result in suspension from one or more meets or dismissal from the team. Likewise, any participant who violates one of these rules may be subject to further disciplinary action from the school system.

 

VI.       Location:

            Pickett State Park is located in Pickett County, 12 miles north of Jamestown on State       

            Route 154.  The mailing address is Pickett State Park, 4605 Pickett Park Highway,

VII.     Facilities:

            Participants will be housed in modern cabins in the group camp.  No linens will be  provided. 

           The park provides a wide range of recreational activities.

 

VIII.    Cost:

            The fee for the Oak Ridge Cross Country Camp is $200 per individual.  This fee includes 

            meals, lodging, and transportation for five days. 

 

IX.       Daily Schedule:

            Rise                             8:45 a.m.

            Breakfast                     9:00 a.m.

            Warmup                      10:00 a.m.

            Morning run                10:15 a.m.

            Stretch                         11:30 a.m.

            Lunch                          12:00 p.m.

            Afternoon Session      1:00 p.m.        

            Afternoon workout*   3:30 p.m.         *Yoga/weights/running

            Dinner                         6:00 p.m.

            Evening Program        7:30 p.m.

            In cabins                      11:00 p.m.

            Lights out                    11:30 p.m.

 

X.        Transportation:

            Transportation will be provided by bus to camp on the morning of August 7  returning to Oak Ridge

            on the afternoon of August 11th.  We will depart ORHS at      approximately 10:00 AM on Sunday,

            August 7. Shuttle service during camp will be    provided by ORS vans.

 

XI.       Permission:

Please complete the attached Field Trip Permission form and sign in the appropriate  blanks.  A check

 for $200 made payable to the Oak Ridge Cross Country Boosters should    accompany the

 application. Applications and payment are due on Thursday, July 28, at   5:30 PM in room WC 100.

 

If you would like to order a camp t-shirt, please include an extra $10 per shirt as well as   size. I will

post the design on the team webpage ASAP.
